Full Description:

Early 16th-century oak carving of St Longinus on horseback with his servant from an altarpiece of the Crucifixion, Netherlands c.1520.

Longinus was a Roman who was present at the Crucifixion where he put his lance into Christ's side and said 'Truly this man was a son of God', thus symbolising the converted Gentile.  He is the patron saint of Mantua.

The lance would have been held by both figures together, but the lance and Longinus's right hand are missing.
